A Chatham County judge has temporarily blocked the city of Savannah from enforcing temperature restrictions on carriage horse operations.

This comes after Savannah’s licensed horse-drawn carriage tour operators filed a lawsuit May 18 seeking to block enforcement of the city’s heat ordinance, claiming state law prohibits the local temperature restrictions.

The recent order filed May 26, prevents the city from enforcing Section 6-1564 of the Code of Savannah, including temperature-based and heat-index-based operating restrictions, against the carriage tour operators.
