Metro Savannah Sets Record Labor Force and Employment Gains as Jobs Increase in March

The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that the three-county Savannah Metropolitan Statistical Area saw record-breaking gains in both labor force and employment in March, along with job growth over the month. The unemployment rate was 2.9%, which was down two-tenths of a percentage point over the month. A year ago, the rate was 2.9%. 

“There's no better way to mark Economic Development Week than with measurable results,” said Georgia Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes. “With the state labor force and employment both reaching all-time highs and unemployment falling across all metro areas, more Georgians are securing good-paying jobs that support families, build the future, and strengthen the communities they call home.”

The labor force in Savannah increased by 1,391 over the month and ended the month at an all-time high of 220,380. That number increased by 2,413 from March 2025.   

Savannah finished the month with a record-breaking 214,019 employed residents. That number increased by 1,881 over the month and 2,327 from the same time last year. 

Savannah ended March with 215,200 jobs. Jobs increased by 800 from the previous month and were up 400 from the same time last year. 

In March, initial unemployment claims decreased by one from the previous month and increased by 20 from the same month a year ago, totaling 506.
