OmniTRAX, Inc., one of the nation’s fastest growing privately held infrastructure companies, has dedicated the rail yard of Georgia’s newest certified railroad in honor of OmniTRAX board member Dean Piacente. Savannah Industrial Transportation (SIT), provides vital rail service to CSX and Norfolk Southern that enables safe and efficient access to the Port of Savannah and the North American Rail Freight Network. The first new Georgia railroad in the past five decades, SIT was formally certified as a railroad in 2025. The dedication commemorates the commitment of OmniTRAX board member Dean Piacente to see the historic railroad to its full operation.

“Rail served real estate is a major OmniTRAX strength, and Savannah Industrial is a shining example of the combined power of rail and real estate,” said OmniTRAX CEO Colby Tanner. “This railroad would not have been possible without the unwavering commitment of Dean Piacente, so we are proud to commemorate his belief in this market and his passion for this project with today’s dedication.”

With unparalleled domestic and global access, Savannah continues to play a major role in the world’s supply chains. Savannah Industrial Transportation serves the 2,600-acre global business park, Savannah Gateway Industrial Hub (SGIH). Opened in 2019, SGIH has attracted industry leaders seeking efficient access to the Port of Savannah and the population dense Southeast markets. The global logistics campus is a public-private partnership between the Effingham County Industrial Development Authority (ECIDA), OmniTRAX, and its real estate affiliate, Broe Real Estate Group.

Piacente Rail Yard supports the movements of more than 5,000 annual cars currently handled by the seven-mile SIT, with projected rail traffic expected to double within the next year as the park continues its growth. SGIH has the capacity to serve an additional 17 million square feet of warehousing and manufacturing facilities. The dedication ceremony – conducted by OmniTRAX CEO Colby Tanner – included company officials, local partners, former OmniTRAX CEO Dean Piacente, and Piacente’s family.
