Summer Reading Starts June 1 with Live Oak Public Library!
Monday, May 18th, 2026
Readers of all ages are invited to sign up for Live Oak Public Library's Summer Reading Program, which kicks off June 1st and runs through July 31st.
The beloved free annual program features two months of reading, special programs, activities and prizes, designed to encourage the entire community to share in the joy of lifelong reading, while helping students avoid the "summer slide" during the school break. Adults and children can track their own progress, as well as the community's progress, throughout the summer online and at their local LOPL branch.
Online registration is underway now. Readers can also sign up at one of six simultaneous kick off parties at LOPL branches, scheduled for 10 AM to Noon Saturday, June 6th.
"This year's theme, 'Unearth a Story,' gave us the opportunity to create exciting programming, reading recommendations and activities for patrons of all ages," said Lola DeWitt, Executive Director. "Summer Reading is a powerful program that encourages everyone to participate, and to continue exploring, growing and reading throughout the summer.
Last year, more than 8,100 patrons participated in Summer Reading and attended nearly 1,000 programs at their local branches.
In partnership with America's Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia, free healthy lunches will be provided weekdays noon to 1PM from June 1 through July 31 for children 0 to 18 at seven Live Oak Branches: Bull Street, Forest City, Garden City, Hinesville, Midway-Riceboro, Port City and Southwest Chatham.
