City of Savannah Announces Forsyth Park Tennis Courts Renovation Ahead of Labor Day

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Thursday, June 18th, 2026

The City of Savannah announces upcoming renovation of community tennis courts at Forsyth Park as part of the City’s Recreation Reimagined initiative. Funded through the FY2026 Capital Improvement Program (CIP), construction is anticipated to begin later this month with a targeted completion date of September 14, 2026.

Deteriorated courts and fencing will be replaced. Additionally, site amenities will be upgraded with new asphalt pavement and sport-specific court surfacing engineered to improve safety, playability, and overall user experience. A comprehensive assessment of the existing facility determined current subgrade and surface conditions are beyond repair and can no longer be restored to meet modern safety and performance standards. The planned improvements will deliver a durable, long-term solution for residents and visitors who rely on the facility.

City officials were intentional in scheduling construction during summer months, when court usage is traditionally lower due to extreme heat and school vacation schedules. The current timeline minimizes disruption to regular programming and recreational play while enabling the project to be completed efficiently.

A competitive bidding process was completed, in accordance with City procurement requirements, and awarded to Edwards Construction Group, the lowest responsive bidder. Edwards Construction Group is a Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) - certified Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) contractor.

The City appreciates the community’s patience during construction and looks forward to delivering upgraded courts that will better serve residents and visitors for years to come.
