Monday, June 22nd, 2026

The Tybee Island Marine Science Center announces the appointment of Timothy S. Mescon, Ph.D., as President of the Board of Trustees.

Tim brings a wealth of skills and experience to the organization. A former faculty member, dean and University president, he subsequently served for eight years as Executive Vice President for AACSB International, the oldest and largest accreditor of business schools in the world. He continues to oversee growth and engagement for AACSB, though he claims to be “retired.”

Based for much of his life in Atlanta and Columbus, GA, Tim has taken on active roles in the non-profit community for decades. A member of Rotary, Tim served for 10 years on the Board of United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta and was a Commissioner on the City of Atlanta’s Homeless Commission as well as Board Chair of the United Way of Columbus, GA where he led an incredibly successful annual campaign as well as the effort to bring United Way’s number 211 to Columbus. With his wife Lauren, Tim helped launch the Early Head Start program in Columbus and has also been closely engaged with the American Heart Association.

His work travels have taken him from the Middle East and Africa to Canada, Latin America, and the Caribbean, but his favorite spot on the globe is at home on Tybee Island, where he lives with his wife, Lauren, with whom he shares four children and six grandchildren. The TIMSC team is thrilled to have him at the helm and looking forward to an exciting, productive tenure.

“We’re lucky to have someone as experienced in non-profit management as Tim to guide us into this new era,” says Chantal Audran, TIMSC Executive Director.

“We’re going through a lot of growth here at the center, and he’s going to be such a valuable guide.”

TIMSC Board of Trustees presidents serve two-year terms, with the option to stay in the position for up to six years.
