Tuesday, June 23rd, 2026
The City of Tybee Island's America250 Fire Hydrant Art Project is generating tremendous community enthusiasm, with more than 30 applications already submitted from artists, businesses, civic groups, schools, families, and City departments eager to transform ordinary fire hydrants into patriotic works of art.
The project is part of Tybee Island's celebration of America's 250th birthday and invites participants to paint selected fire hydrants throughout the island with creative designs that celebrate American history, patriotism, community spirit, and Tybee Island's unique character.
Adding to the excitement, multiple City of Tybee departments have entered the competition, creating a friendly rivalry among municipal teams while demonstrating the City's commitment to community engagement and America250 celebrations.
"This project has exceeded our expectations," said Mayor Brian West. "The response from our community has been incredible. People are excited to showcase their creativity, celebrate our nation's history, and help make Tybee Island even more colorful and welcoming for residents and visitors alike."
Participants will compete for several awards, including:
• Best Patriotic Theme
• Best Youth Design
• Most Creative
• Best Tybee Spirit
• Best City Department Design
The City is continuing to accept applications and encourages artists of all ages and skill levels to participate.
Individuals, families, schools, businesses, nonprofits, clubs, and community organizations are welcome to apply.
