Live Oak Public Library Invites the Public to Review Proposed Design for the New Branch

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Monday, August 17th, 2026

The public is invited to attend a Town Hall presentation of design concepts for the replacement of the Live Oak Public Library's Oglethorpe Mall branch.

The Town Hall will be held Monday, August 24th from 6 PM to 7:30 PM at the Oglethorpe Mall branch, located at Seven Mall Annex, Savannah, 31405.

Representative design renderings will be displayed at the Oglethorpe Mall Library during regular operating hours from Monday, August 17th through Monday, August 24th. The public is invited to leave comments on the design with staff during this period.

At the Town Hall, library leadership and the project's architectural firm, GMShay Architects, will present the design and discuss the overall vision for the new branch. Questions and comments will be welcomed.

The new library will be built on property owned by Chatham County at the corner of Eisenhower Drive and Waters Avenue. It will replace the Oglethorpe Mall branch, which was built in 1979 and is one of Live Oak's busiest libraries.

The project is funded through $3 million from the State of Georgia, $3 million in federal funding and $5.5 million in local monies. Savannah-based GMShay was awarded the design project, with Chatham County Commissioners voting their approval in February. Groundbreaking on the new structure is planned for the first half of 2027.

A second Town Hall is scheduled for Thursday, August 27th, from 6 PM to 7:30 PM, at the county building at 1249 Eisenhower Drive (across from the National Guard) in Savannah. LOPL and GMShay will again present design concepts and the overall calendar of the construction process with representatives from neighboring businesses. The general public is also invited.
