The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that the two-county Hinesville Metropolitan Statistical Area recorded an unemployment rate of 3.7% in July, down four-tenths of a percentage point over the month. A year ago, the rate was 3.9%.

“July brought a clear victory for Georgia: Unemployment fell in every single metro area and region,” said Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes. “When state leaders, local communities and Main Street businesses row in the same direction, results follow. We aren’t slowing down – our focus remains on putting Georgians to work, growing paychecks and building real opportunity in every corner of the state.”

The labor force in Hinesville decreased by 270 over the month and ended at 31,468. That number decreased by 196 compared to the same time last year.

Hinesville finished July with 30,304 employed residents, down 147 over the month and 115 over the year. 

Hinesville ended July with 21,500 jobs. That number decreased by 300 over the month and 500 over the year.

In July, initial unemployment claims decreased by 28 over the previous month and 41 from the same month a year ago, totaling 78.
