The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that the three-county Savannah Metropolitan Statistical Area reported an unemployment rate of 2.7% in July, down three-tenths of a percentage point over the month. A year ago, the rate was 2.9%.

“July brought a clear victory for Georgia: Unemployment fell in every single metro area and region,” said Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes. “When state leaders, local communities and Main Street businesses row in the same direction, results follow. We aren’t slowing down – our focus remains on putting Georgians to work, growing paychecks and building real opportunity in every corner of the state.”

The labor force in Savannah decreased by 1,634 over the month and ended the month at 221,018. That number increased by 2,191 from July 2025. 

Savannah finished the month with 214,985 employed residents. That number decreased by 879 over the month and increased 2,590 from the same time last year.

Savannah ended July with 216,200 jobs. Jobs decreased by 1,800 over the previous month and declined by 300 from the same time last year.

In July, initial unemployment claims increased by five from the previous month and by five from the same month a year ago, totaling 527.
