Savannah Celebrates America’s 250th Anniversary with Reenactment Reading of Declaration of Independence

The City of Savannah is pleased to support the Savannah US250 Commission for a special reenactment commemorating the 250th anniversary of the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence in Savannah.
The event will take place Monday, August 10, at 10:30am at Johnson Square, Downtown Savannah. Reenactors will march to the square, greet attendees, and read aloud the document credited with changing the course of events in Savannah.
History will come to life as patriot reenactors march to Johnson Square, Georgia’s oldest and largest public square, and recreate a special time in history, as Archibald Bulloch, president of Georgia’s Provincial Council, reads the Declaration aloud to Savannahians.
The event is free and open to the public. Residents and visitors are invited to attend and experience this living history program as the nation continues its commemoration of America's 250th anniversary.
