Founder of Savannah African Art Museum Dies at 96

Donald “Don” Kole, the founder of the Savannah African Art Museum and Georgia Historical Society Chairman Emeritus, died Tuesday at the age of 96, a spokesperson for the museum said.
Kole served as the president, vice president, treasurer, curator and fundraiser of the Georgia Historical Society. He and his wife, Kaye, established the Don and Kaye Kole Endowment Fund for the GHS in 2001.
The art museum will close at 1 p.m. Thursday in observance of Kole’s funeral, which will be held at Bonaventure Cemetery at 2 p.m.
