Metro Hinesville Reports Gains in Labor Force, Employment and Jobs in August

The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that the two-county Hinesville Metropolitan Statistical Area saw gains in its labor force, employment and jobs in August. The over-the-month unemployment rate rose two-tenths of a percentage point to 3.9%, down from 4.1% a year ago.
“Georgia’s economy continues to deliver,” said Georgia Labor Commissioner Barbara Rivera Holmes. “Across the state, we’re seeing a strong labor force and regional growth that reflects an economy rewarding hard work, encouraging job creation and removing unnecessary barriers. As we build Georgia into a Top State for Talent, we’re creating a place where people can work, businesses can invest and communities can thrive.”
The labor force in Hinesville increased by 477 over the month and ended at 31,974. That number increased by 412 compared to the same time last year.
Hinesville finished August with 30,715 employed residents, up 385 over the month and 438 over the year.
Hinesville ended August with 21,800 jobs. That number increased by 200 over the month and decreased by 400 over the year.
In August, initial unemployment claims increased by 38 over the previous month and were down by 6 from the same month a year ago, totaling 116.
