Metro Savannah Employment Reaches All-Time High as Labor Force and Jobs Grow in August

The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that employment in the three-county Savannah Metropolitan Statistical Area reached an all-time high in August, while the labor force and number of jobs also increased. The unemployment rate rose two-tenths of a percentage point to 2.9%, down from 3.2% a year ago.
“Georgia’s economy continues to deliver,” said Georgia Labor Commissioner Barbara Rivera Holmes. “Across the state, we’re seeing a strong labor force and regional growth that reflects an economy rewarding hard work, encouraging job creation and removing unnecessary barriers. As we build Georgia into a Top State for Talent, we’re creating a place where people can work, businesses can invest and communities can thrive.”
The labor force in Savannah increased by 1,054 over the month and ended the month at 222,415. That number increased by 6,399 from August 2025.
Savannah finished the month with 215,896 employed residents, an all-time high. That number increased by 562 over the month and 6,695 from the same time last year.
Savannah ended August with 217,000 jobs. Jobs increased by 500 over the previous month and 1,700 from the same time last year.
In August, initial unemployment claims decreased by 83 from the previous month and by 89 from the same month a year ago, totaling 444.
