Tybee Island Marks Major Milestone at River’s End Campground
Wednesday, September 16th, 2026
The City of Tybee Island will celebrate the payoff of River’s End Campground & RV Park with a mortgage burning ceremony Wednesday.
The event begins at 11 a.m. at the campground, located at 5 Fort Avenue. Remarks are scheduled for 11:30 a.m., followed by a community celebration with hot dogs and s’mores around a campfire.
The city purchased River’s End Campground in 2006 for approximately $7 million from a developer who planned to build on the property. City leaders say the purchase prevented another condominium development and preserved the land for camping, recreation and green space.
The acquisition was financed through Chatham County Recreation Authority Revenue Bonds. City financial records show the original bond amount was $7.13 million.
