City of Port Wentworth Expands Cultural Programming with 1st Annual Garba Festival at VyStar Pavilion
Tuesday, October 6th, 2026
The free cultural celebration on Saturday, October 10, will feature traditional Garba and Dandiya Raas dancing, music and food, and is open to dancers of all cultures and experience levels.
The City of Port Wentworth will host its 1st Annual Garba Festival on Saturday, October 10, from 6 p.m. to midnight at VyStar Pavilion in Anchor Park, 20 Anchor Park Boulevard. Admission is free. "Our residents represent a wide range of cultures and backgrounds, and we want our events calendar to reflect that," said Steve Davis, City Manager, City of Port Wentworth. "The Garba Festival joins our Black History Month, Juneteenth Celebration and La Fiesta Hispana as part of the City's growing cultural programming." Garba is a traditional folk dance from Gujarat, India, in which participants gather in circles and move together to music. The evening will also feature Dandiya Raas, a dance performed with colorful sticks that are tapped together in rhythm.
Attendees do not need to know the steps or understand the language, and guests are welcome to join the dancing or simply watch. Guests are encouraged to wear bright, colorful attire.
"I’m thrilled to share my culture with the community. Exposure to different cultures is how we learn. We have more similarities than differences. Come, experience Indian culture and let’s strengthen our community." said Nishant Randerwala, City Councilmember, City of Port Wentworth.
