Empty Bowl Fundraising Event Brings Savannah Together to Support Neighbors Experiencing Homelessness

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Wednesday, October 28th, 2026

Union Mission will host Empty Bowl, a ceramic arts fundraiser and tasting, on Sunday, November 1, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Reynolds Square. Proceeds will benefit the new Emmaus House Resource Center, which provides coordinated services for people experiencing homelessness in Savannah.

The reimagined community gathering will feature soups prepared by Union Mission’s culinary team, plus additional bites from The Olde Pink House, Collins Quarter, The Sentient Bean and Leopold’s Ice Cream. Guests can enjoy live music by harpist Kristen King, choose a handcrafted ceramic bowl and take home a branded tote as a reminder of the community’s compassion and care.

“Empty Bowl brings our community together around the shared belief that every neighbor deserves dignity, care and a path to stable housing,” said Michael Traynor, President and CEO of Union Mission. “Guests will enjoy a meaningful afternoon while supporting the Emmaus House Resource Center where we connect people with the coordinated services they need to move forward.”

After the event, guests are invited to tour the new Emmaus House Resource Center at 127 Fahm Street. The optional tour begins at 1:30 p.m., and parking will be available. The center serves nearly 200 people each day by providing meals, medical care, counseling and case management, workforce development, dignity services, and housing navigation – all in one location.
