Georgia Power Vegetative Maintenance Work to Impact Service, Traffic Signals on 37th Street Today

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Thursday, October 1st, 2026

Crews with Georgia Power Company will be clearing limbs that have been causing service disruptions near W 38th Street in Savannah on Thursday, Oct. 1. Roadway traffic and power delivery service will be impacted by the work.

In order to safely remove limbs that have been impacting the overhead power lines, a scheduled outage from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. will occur in the area affecting customers and traffic lights along 37th St. at the intersections of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Montgomery St. and Barnard St.

During the work, crews will be operating in the roadway and police officers will be handling traffic control in the impacted intersections. Drivers are encouraged to exercise caution in the area or seek alternative routes if possible.

As part of the regular maintenance work of our electric grid system, Georgia Power maintains and protects vegetation in the right-of-way both under and over-head power lines. This maintenance work requires the regular pruning of trees and limbs. Vegetation management is crucial to limiting outages and quickly restoring service when they occur.

Georgia Power is committed to delivering clean, safe, affordable, reliable energy every day to more than 2.8 million customers. While we understand that a scheduled outage impacting the community can be inconvenient, temporarily de-energizing the equipment allows crews to safely remove vegetation that could create more impactful outages if left untended.
