Girl Scouts to Host State of the Georgia Girl Panel Discussion in Savannah

Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia will bring together community leaders and experts on Friday, October 9, for a panel discussion introducing the 2026 State of the Georgia Girl Report, a new statewide examination of the well-being, experiences and opportunities of girls growing up in Georgia.

The report was commissioned collaboratively by Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia and Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta, the two Girl Scout councils serving communities across the state.

By combining statewide data with the collective perspective of both councils, the report is designed to present a fuller picture of the Georgia girl across geography, communities, backgrounds and lived experiences. Together, the councils serve nearly 30,000 girls across

Georgia with the support of more than 16,000 volunteers.

The panel discussion will be held from 11 a.m. to noon at the AC Hotel Savannah Historic District, 601 E. River St. The event will provide an early look at the report and create a community conversation around what Georgia girls are experiencing and what they need to thrive.

The report examines girls’ experiences across five interconnected dimensions of wellness: physical health, digital wellness, emotional wellness, academic wellness and social wellness.

It draws from publicly available primary sources including the U.S. Census Bureau, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Georgia Department of Education, along with peer- reviewed research.

The findings reveal a generation of girls reaching significant milestones while also navigating complex challenges. Nearly 90% of Georgia girls graduated high school in 2025, five percentage points higher than boys. At the same time, 58% of upper-school girls experienced signs of depression, and two in three high school girls lack a caring adult to talk with about their feelings. As the report states, is struggling are the same girl. ”

The discussion will be facilitated by Tara Nobles and will feature panelists representing perspectives connected to girls’ health, education, development and well-being.The 2026 State of the Georgia Girl Report will be publicly released October 9. The report is intended to serve as an ongoing statewide resource for educators, policymakers, philanthropists, faith communities, employers, families and every adult whose decisions help shape the lives of Georgia girls.
