Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Wednesday, October 21st, 2026

Hope Haven, a faith-based social club serving individuals living with early to mid-stage dementia, invites dementia caregivers and community members to the next installment of its free Caregiver Education Series on Thursday, Oct. 29, at Cranmer Hall in downtown Savannah.

Featured speaker Cathy Lunsford of Vital Bridge Wellness will present "Dementia Caregiving: Navigating Doctors, Diagnosis & Hospital Care," offering practical guidance and actionable insights for families caring for a loved one with dementia.

The presentation will address common challenges caregivers encounter when communicating with healthcare providers, navigating medical appointments, understanding complex diagnoses, and advocating for loved ones during hospital stays. Attendees will gain valuable tools and knowledge to help them feel more confident and prepared throughout their caregiving journey.

"Caregivers often find themselves navigating a complex healthcare system while simultaneously managing the emotional and practical demands of caring for a loved one," said Cathy Baxter, director of Hope Haven. "This presentation is designed to help caregivers feel empowered and equipped when advocating for their loved ones at medical appointments and beyond."

To help families build a strong support network, Hope Haven volunteers will be available before and after the presentation to share details about its dementia respite program. Attendees can also connect with key community partners, including Vital Bridge Wellness, Cornerstone Caregiving, the Alzheimer's Association, the Edel Caregiver Institute, and Blake Transit Solutions. Together, these organizations will offer information on nonmedical in-home care, concierge nursing, support groups, transportation and more.
