“India and the United States in a Disorderly World”

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Monday, October 19th, 2026

How is India – the world’s most populous country, a nuclear power, and one of the world’s fastest growing economies – navigating a world being shaped by tariffs, wars in Ukraine and Iran, disruptions from artificial intelligence, and U.S.-China competition? As U.S.-India relations become volatile in an increasingly disordered world, India continues to engage bilaterally with Washington, diversify its relations with U.S. allies, and manage a difficult relationship with China. At the same time, it is increasingly shaping international commerce, security, and institutions through its engagements with the Middle
East, Southeast Asia, Africa, Russia, and beyond. What are the implications of
these relationships on U.S. national interests?

Join the Savannah Council on World Affairs to hear the expert insights of Dhruva Jaishankar, executive director of the Observer Research Foundation America, a public policy think tank in Washington D.C.

Jaishankar helped establish the organization he leads in 2020. He is a non-
resident fellow at the Lowy Institute in Australia and a 2026 senior fellow with
the Asia New Zealand Foundation. The speaker, who is the son of the current
Minister of External Affairs of India, was previously a Fellow in Foreign Policy
Studies at Brookings India in New Delhi and the Brookings Institution in
Washington D.C. He has also been a David Rockefeller Fellow with the Trilateral
Commission, an IISS-SAIS Merrill Center Young Strategist, and a Brent
Scowcroft Award Fellow with the Aspen Strategy Group. He holds a master’s
degree in security studies from Georgetown University. His commentary has
appeared in such publications as Foreign Affairs, The Globe & Mail, The Hindu, Indian Express, India Today, Politico, The Straits Times, and The Times of India and online for The Atlantic, BBC World, Foreign Policy, Lawfare, The New York Times, Project Syndicate, War on the Rocks, and The Washington Post.

The Savannah meeting will run from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, October 15, at the
