Telfair Museums’ Friends of African American Arts (FAAA), Savannah State University’s Visual and Performing Arts Program, and the Greater Savannah Black Chamber of Commerce are proud to present The Business of Art: Vision to Value, a professional workshop series designed to equip artists and art enthusiasts with knowledge, tools, and confidence to build thriving creative enterprises. The first workshop will be held on October 27, 2026 from 6-9 p.m. in Adams Hall on the SSU campus, 3219 College Street, Savannah.
The two-hour workshop series is open to aspiring, emerging, and professional artists, as well as collectors, ‘artrepreneurs,’ and arts enthusiasts interested in strengthening Savannah’s creative economy. Through expert-led discussions, networking opportunities, and practical business education, participants will gain insight into navigating the business side of an artistic career and economy while maintaining creative integrity.
Recognizing that artists are entrepreneurs, cultural contributors, and community leaders, the series bridges the gap between artistic excellence and business acumen. Topics throughout the series include business formation, financial literacy, merchandising, expanding audiences, festivals and fairs, collection preservation, and professional development.
“Whether self-taught or degree holding, artists engulf themselves in the act of creation. When they are ready to share their work with the community and make it available for collectors to purchase, they become entrepreneurs. The Business of Art is designed to provide artists with the information and tools to transform creative vision into sustainable monetary value,” said Dr. Annissa Roland, Telfair Museums Friends of African American Arts president.
The session will feature nationally recognized professionals, including Robin Stennet, Founder & CEO, The Margin Release; Gabrielle Torres, artist and SCAD Professor; Nancey B. Price, artist and storyteller. The evening will conclude with “Tonight’s Evening Exhibition: Artists Take the Wall,” a one-night, artist-curated experience where artists show up, take the walls, showcase their work, and connect directly with the community.
Future Business of Art sessions include March 4: Art Fairs and Festivals; July 15: Art Legacy: Collection and Preservation.
The series is made possible through the collaborative efforts of Telfair Museums’ Friends of African American Arts, Savannah State University, the Greater Savannah Black Chamber of Commerce, and Savannah State students who assist with marketing, event production, and community engagement.
