The Kennickell Group, a company specializing in print, fulfillment, direct mail and wide format, is celebrating 125 years in business. Founded as Kennickell Printing Company in 1892 by Milton Kennickell, the company still remains in the Kennickell family. Once a small print and office supply company, the Kennickell Group is now a diversified company handling print and marketing automation needs for many of the country’s leaders in their industries. With clients and print partners around the world, the company has become truly global.
The Kennickell Group has two locations in Savannah. Its print operations are housed in a 45,000 square foot building on President Street, while its direct mail and fulfillment operations are located one mile away in an 83,000 square foot facility. The company is proud to boast that the average tenure of all employees is 13 years, having approximately 100 employees. Most of the management team has been in place for almost 30 years.
Al Kennickell, the third generation company president, says that while the company is very different today than when it was when founded, the most dramatic changes in its 125 year history have come about in the last 15 years. “The industry has changed since the introduction of the Internet. Since 2005, 40% of printing companies in the United States have gone out of business. We were fortunate to have had a team in place willing to think outside of the box and realize that change was necessary. It worked out very well for us,” stated Kennickell.
A true family business, there are five Kennickells working within the company. Al Kennickell, Karen Kennickell Wessinger, Terri Kennickell, along with 4th generation members Kacey and Trip Kennickell.
“It is great working with family members, but what makes our company special is that even if your last name is not Kennickell, everyone here feels like part of the family,” said Al Kennickell.
