Armstrong Hires Dr. Janet A. Buckenmeyer as Dean of College of Education

Armstrong State University recently hired Dr. Janet A. Buckenmeyer to serve as dean of the College of Education. In this role, she supervises overall operations for the college and provides leadership and vision while supporting faculty in teaching, professional development, service and scholarship. 

As chief advocate for the college, Buckenmeyer sees that all programs exceed state and national academic standards and assure continuing accreditation. She is also responsible for developing and maintaining productive collaborations with sister institutions within the University System of Georgia, as well as regional school districts and agencies. 

Prior to joining Armstrong, Buckenmeyer acted as associate dean of the Spadoni College of Education at Coastal Carolina University. Carrying out the mission and goals of the college while leading accreditation efforts and assisting students and faculty with academic policies and procedures, she was a key player in recruitment and retention efforts. In addition, Buckenmeyer participated in curriculum development, assisted with disciplinary and fundraising functions and acted as external representation for the college.

Buckenmeyer was program chair and associate professor for the Master of Instructional Technology Program at Purdue University Calumet, where she mentored and evaluated tenured and tenure-track faculty, led accreditation efforts and was instrumental in creating hybrid and online learning courses.

Buckenmeyer holds a Ph.D. and M.Ed. from the University of Toledo, as well as a B.S. in Science in Education from Bowling Green State University.
