Wednesday, July 15th, 2015

In a recent annual review, J.C. Lewis Primary Health Care Center, a nonprofit organization providing affordable health care services to individuals in the Savannah community, reported serving a record number of uninsured, underinsured, and homeless persons with limited income in 2014.

The modest-sized health care center provided medical treatment to more than 9,500 citizens, with more than 32,000 medical encounters at the nonprofit's headquarters located at 125 Fahm St. in downtown Savannah. Today, the medical staff at J.C. Lewis continues to provide critical primary medical care, dental, behavioral health and family planning services to a growing number of Savannah’s population in need of quality care, despite their inability to pay.

“From our modest beginnings in 1999, J.C Lewis has been defined by passion - passion for our work and our mission to serve the uninsured, underinsured and persons experiencing homelessness,” said Aretha Jones, CEO at J.C. Lewis Primary Health Care Center. “Providing high quality, comprehensive health care will remain the hallmark of JCLPHCC. We are committed to growing our healthcare center and enabling services in a way that will benefit the residents of Chatham County’s health and wellbeing.”

Year over year, JCLPHCC has experienced an increase in patient load. In 2009, the Center reported serving just over 6,000 people, with more than 13,000 medical encounters, as compared to 2014 with almost triple the amount of medical encounters.

“We have been blessed with the ongoing and generous support of trusted community friends and partners for many years, which has made a tremendous difference, not just for our organization, but for the thousands of people we serve based on their individual need rather than their ability to pay,” said Jones. “On behalf of them and JCLPHCC’s staff, we cannot express our gratitude enough.”

As the needs of the community evolve, JCLPHCC is continuing to seek innovative and new opportunities to expand and improve its services in order to best serve those who are most in need.
