Savannah Children’s Choir to Present End of Camp Concert

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Friday, July 17th, 2015

The Savannah Children’s Choir presents their End of Camp Concert, “Greatest Hits”,  on Friday, July 24 at 7 p.m. at the Lucas Theater.  The public is invited to attend, and tickets are available in advance through Savannah Box Office, and at the door.   Tickets are $25 for VIP Reserved, and general admission tickets are $12 (adults) and $6 (students).

The End of Camp concert is the culmination of the choir’s 10th annual Summer Camp, a two-week music education experience.  This year’s theme is “Greatest Hits”, in celebration of the choir’s 10th anniversary. The 140 campers, rising 2nd through 8th graders, will have just spent two weeks learning about music history and theory, how to sight read music, and how to sing a capella (like in Pitch Perfect).  The program consists of the “best of” songs throughout SCC’s 10 year history, selected by member and alumni voting.

“This is one of our most exciting concerts of the year,” comments Director of Development and Co-Founder Roger Moss.  “It’s amazing to see what these children – many who have no prior musical experience – are able to learn and accomplish in just two short weeks!”

This year’s success in directly attributed to the quality of teaching interns selected for the program, according to Emmy Williams, SCC’s Director of Education and Music.  “We have teaching and assisting interns from Florida State, Mercer University, Georgia Southern, Kennesaw State and more,” comments Williams.  “These interns are competitively selected from a broad pool of applicants, and are chosen for their ability to effectively communicate musical concepts to children from a wide diversity of ages and experiences,” she continued.

The End of Camp concert is made possible by Summer Camp sponsors; Don & Cindy Waters, Fuji Oil, Gulfstream, the Savannah Friends of Music, and N’Laws Produce, the Healthy Snack sponsor.
