Staff Report From Savannah CEO

The West Broad Street YMCA is pleased to announce a new partnership with Parent University and the Early Learning College at Parent University as an Extension Site. For nearly 75 years, the West Broad Street Y has demonstrated its commitment to strengthening community through its sensitivity to the needs and concerns of families. Parent University has a history for over 15 years of engaging parents to make them feel valued and that their concerns matter. The Early Learning College, which was established in 2011 in partnership with the Savannah Early Childhood Foundation, is focused on helping parents create high quality learning environments for their children starting at birth through five. By becoming an Extension Site, the West Broad Street YMCA will be able to provide additional family engagement, character and life skill building opportunities for parents to become fully educated and gain credit towards their Parent University graduation.
Today's families face new challenges and have needs stemming from busy schedules, poor nutrition, infrequent physical activity, and lack of access to economic and social resources to support a healthy lifestyle. Families are under stress, and Ys are in a unique position to help.
The Y’s goal is to engage children and adults so that:
-
every child and youth deepens positive values, their commitment to service, and their motivation to learn
-
every family builds stronger bonds, achieves greater work/life balance, and becomes more engaged with their communities; and
-
every individual strengthens his or her spiritual, mental, and physical well-being.
Flyers that include the Parent University and the Early Learning College logos will count towards credit for completion of Parent University. Contact the West Broad Street YMCA or Parent University for a listing of upcoming events and programming that will be featured Extension Site activities.
