RHBC Chamber September Lunch & Learn

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Monday, August 24th, 2015

Many small business owners have found themselves doing what they do well without ever having mastered the business basics. These basics would include planning and monitoring their business as it grows. Many have fallen short of their goals by not having those basic financial skills.

This vital subject will be covered in an interesting and informative way at a presentation by Certified Public Accountant Neville Stein at the Lunch & Learn on Wednesday, September 9th  from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Chamber office, located at 2591 Hwy 17, ste. 100 in the Crossroads Center – just around the corner from Uptown Deli.

One such monitoring tool which all stakeholders such as lenders, banks and other players rely heavily upon, is the balance sheet. According to Stein, he has found that many business owners do not understand what a balance sheet is and how to read it. There is much to learn from this financial statement such as:

·         What exactly is a balance sheet?
·         How is the business structured?
·         What does the business own?
·         What does it owe?
·         Can it cover its obligations both short term and long term?
·         What are indicators for the general health of the business?
·         What are danger signs or precautionary signs of impending problems?
·         Is it well- structured and does it look healthy and well placed to operate successfully?

Stein has an MBA, is a QuickBooks Pro Advisor and over 20+ years’ experience as a business consultant makes him adept at business planning and budgeting for small businesses and non-profit organizations.

The Lunch & Learn event is complimentary to RHBC Chamber members and $15.00 for non-members.
