Victory Drive Corridor Study Launch of Phase II

The Chatham County-Savannah Metropolitan Planning Commission, on behalf of the Coastal Region Metropolitan Planning Organization, recently completed Phase I of the Victory Drive Corridor Study.  The purpose of this study is to prepare a plan which focuses on the preservation and restoration of the historic, commemorative landscape of Victory Drive and incorporates contemporary, complete streets solutions while balancing the need for continued mobility.  More information about Phase I of the study can be found at http://www.thempc.org/Transportation/VictoryDrCorridorStudy.html.

Next week, the project team will be involved in an intensive work session, including data collection, assessment, and a series of stakeholder and community meetings for the focus area of Victory Drive between Ogeechee Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.  This work will include in three opportunities for the community to learn more about the study and provide input:

Meeting Purpose: 5:30 p.m. - Welcome and brief project overview; provide ideas and concerns along the corridor.  6:00 p.m. - Join the project team for a walk along Victory Drive to share ideas “in the field.”

Progress presentation to the Victory Drive Project Advisory Committee, Community Stakeholders and MPC. Initial design ideas will be shared for input on recommendations for Victory Drive.

“We are excited about this next phase of the study where we will focus in on Victory Drive between Ogeechee Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard,” said Tom Thomson, Executive Director of MPC.  “Concentrating on this focus area will provide more in-depth analysis of issues and specific recommendations within an implementation plan. Future phases will address at this detail other sections of Victory Drive.”

In addition to the MPC, funding for this study is provided by the City of Savannah, Downtown Garden Club, Ardsley Park Garden Club, Trustees Garden Club, Savannah Tree Foundation, Historic Savannah Foundation, Savannah Area Board of Realtors, and Cora Bett Thomas Commercial Realty.
