Whitman Wednesday- September 16th

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Friday, August 28th, 2015

The Whitman Mansion will continue its series of Whitman Wednesday events – an initiative launched earlier this year to support local nonprofits – on the evening of Wednesday, September 16. Proceeds from this social event will benefit The Alzheimer’s Association’s Georgia Chapters, whose mission is to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.

The Whitman Mansion began this charitable endeavor earlier this year and the parties feature drinks, delicious hor d’oeuvres, entertainment and networking opportunities.   Proceeds from each event go to the evening’s designated nonprofit organization.

For a $25 donation in advance or $30 at the door, attendees can get a taste of what the beautifully restored Victorian mansion has to offer. The next Whitman Wednesday is scheduled for 5:30-7:30p.m. Wednesday, September 16 at the mansion, which is located at 611 Whitaker St. in Savannah. As they mingle, guests will enjoy appetizers, assorted wines and beers– all graciously donated by The Whitman Hospitality Group.

The Alzheimer’s Association, Georgia Chapters relies upon community based fundraising efforts in order to serve families that need support.  The social will also feature a silent auction, allowing guests to bid on a variety of donated gifts, luxury items and services.

The Whitman Mansion General Manager Bob Vardzel said “This is the third Whitman Wednesday event and we’ve had many inquiries from the public about the date of the next event. We feel privileged and honored to be able to contribute to worthy charitable causes and endeavors right here in Savannah while giving the community a chance to relax and enjoy an evening out in the comfort and luxury of our historic mansion.”

Casey Corley, Director of Constituent Events, said, “We were thrilled when The Whitman called and said we had been selected for their next Whitman Wednesday.   Our goal is to eradicate Alzheimer’s altogether.  Raising awareness and funds for this cause is vital and we need the public’s help.  We expect this ticketed event to sell out quickly and urge supporters to purchase their tickets ahead of time.”
