Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens and Telfair Museums launch Spirit of Monet Plant Collection with a garden party on Thursday, September 17 from 7-9 pm at the Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens.

In celebration of Telfair Museums’ Monet and American Impressionism exhibition opening on October 16, four horticulturalists from the Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens created the Spirit of Monet Plant Collection. The collection features a stunning selection of flowers inspired by the work of the French Impressionist painter and garden architect, Claude Monet.

At the unveiling guests are invited to stroll through the colorful Monet-inspired gardens. Hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be served on the back terrace, and guests will be able to mingle with Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens’ horticulturists and Telfair Museums’ curators, and learn how to create their own Spirit of Monet garden.

“Having Monet come to town is an event the whole area can celebrate. Monet said ‘I must have flowers, always and always’,” said Norman Winter, director and superintendent of Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens. “You can join in this celebration by planting flowers from the Spirit of Monet Collection. These are flowers chosen for the local climate and from Monet’s own palette. This will beautify our city, landscapes and homes and even more importantly serve as a welcome sign to our visitors coming to town. We are thrilled to partner with Telfair Museums in the promotion of this special occasion.”

Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens will transform the Jepson Center for the Arts’ Sculpture Terraces into Monet’s garden with an assortment of flowers from the collection, which will be displayed during the entirety of the exhibition. In addition, the City of Savannah will feature the Spirit of Monet Plant Collection throughout the city.

"Telfair Museums is excited to bring this monumental art exhibition to Savannah, and we are very impressed with the bright and beautiful collection the Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens has curated for the occasion,” said Lisa Grove, director and CEO of Telfair Museums. “As the exhibition demonstrates, the French Impressionist movement was widely influential and forever changed ideas about art and painting. This flower collection demonstrates the ability of Monet's work to continue to influence and inspire, on canvas and beyond. We'd like to thank Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens for this fantastic partnership.”

Flowers will be available for purchase at select garden retailers. The garden party is free for Telfair members and Coastal Georgia Botanical Garden members or $15 for non-members. To reserve tickets to the party contact Liz Lubrani at 912-921-5460 or [email protected].
