Kerry Wicke, Ltd. will soon break ground on four luxury townhomes, located between Drayton and Bull on Macon Street.  These townhomes will offer the best of both worlds, the classic downtown charm of the Historic District with all the modern amenities and energy efficiencies of new construction.

Kevin Kiernan, Managing Partner for Kerry Wicke Ltd. stated “We are very respectful of the Historic District and want to embrace the timeless character of the area. We have worked very closely with the John Deering of Homeline Architects and the City to design a historic look in keeping with the neighborhood and all the authentic details that hearken back to an earlier period.  The outside façade will truly be “hand made” with individually molded brick as done in the 19th century. A leaded glass surround at the main entrance and hand-wrought iron railings on the parlour and master bedroom levels will add to the historic charm of the units.

The Townhomes at Madison Square will offer a media room on the garden level, complete with a full bath and second kitchen featuring stone counter tops. This area may also be used as a fourth bedroom or even a separate rental unit if the owner desires.  Next, the parlour level contains the formal living and dining areas. This level will also have a state of the art kitchen and keeping area, complete with designer cabinets and luxury appliances.

The three bedroom, four and one half baths townhomes will have a portico off the master bedroom and terraces off each of the other two bedrooms. The kitchen and keeping room area will also have a separate portico. “The townhomes will embrace the unique and romantic nature of the Historic District, so you will be able to sit outside your kitchen or master bedroom and look out over the beauty of the neighborhood,” Kiernan added.

Significant interior detailing such as marble and antique heart pine floors, as well as neo-classic columns will give these new townhomes the feel of a traditional home. The townhomes are designed to be spacious, open and light-filled.  Even the garden level has 10 foot-high ceilings to make the interior space gracious and inviting.

The townhomes are also designed to let residents age in place, with wide hallways and all interior doors three feet wide. The showers have no thresholds, to allow easy entry. The elevator will give comfortable access to all the floors and will have automatic doors like a commercial elevator.  This allows hands free access for the user and eliminates the typical multi step access of most home elevators.

Designed to reduce noise from the outside, the townhomes will also be energy efficient, with insulated windows and spray foam insulation.  Each floor will also have a zoned air conditioning system permitting individualized comfort for residents.  All of this will still achieve an elegant traditional interior, which the architect intended and detailed, as one would expect in a location so defined for Southern tradition.

The two-car garage means convenient parking, but the location is so centrally located you can easily bike or walk to any part of the Historic District.  Purchasers will be able to make custom changes to the interior of the home if they desire and add features such as an electric car charger, coffee stations or heated floors.

“Downtown Savannah is a very special place, and I appreciate how well the new townhomes will blend seamlessly with the historic architecture,” said Celia Dunn of Celia Dunn Sotheby's International Realty. “The overall design, the materials and the many details give the townhomes such historic charm and the owners will really enjoy all the modern conveniences.”

“It really is an honor to have the opportunity to develop these townhouses in such an important spot of the City,” said Kiernan, who is moving to Savannah and intends to take one of the units himself.  The units are adjacent to Madison Square, originally developed in the 1830’s and really centrally located in the heart of the Historic District.

These townhouses are single family residences so there are no HOA fees. Expected completion is Fall of 2016.
