Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Tuesday, September 8th, 2015

The Savannah Downtown Business Association has teamed up with Revival Fest to kick off a weekend of music beginning Friday September 11th. Bourbon & Brass on Broughton will take place from 6-9pm on Broughton Street between Drayton and Bull Street. The event will feature New Orleans based Stooges Brass Band, a 9 piece Funk, Hip Hop and Brass band as well as a bourbon competition to crown Savannah’s best bourbon cocktail slinger.

To honor the military and all those who serve, a vocalist from Ft. Stewart will open the event at 6PM with the National Anthem from the main stage at the intersection of Bull and Broughton. Following the tribute, the Stooges Brass Band will make their entrance with traditional NOLA style “second-line” parade down Broughton Street before taking the main stage to deliver their spirited and authentic New Orleans celebration stage show.

The Stooges Brass Band has earned their rank as one of the elite brass bands in New Orleans. The band consistently provides a welcome blast of true New Orleans spirit, engaging audiences with their innovative blend of traditional New Orleans brass sounds, contemporary jazz, funk and hip-hop beats.

Kayne Lanahan, Founder of MusicFile Productions, which produces both Revival Fest and Savannah Stopover said, "We're thrilled to be a part of this great community event hosted by the DBA. We're all about great music that comes out of the south and we can't wait to see Savannah dancing to some brass and funk on Broughton Street."

Evening attendees can also partake in the Battle of the Bourbons, and cast a vote for their favorite specially crafted Bourbon drink. Provided by event sponsors Brown Forman and United Distributing, the battle will feature Woodford Reserve, Old Forester, Jack Daniel’s and Gentleman Jack mixed and poured by Savannah’s best bartenders competing against one another for bragging rights of Best Savannah Bourbon Cocktail. The competing bars include Savannah Cocktail Co., The Social Club, Treylor Park and Pacci.

“We are excited to bring this new event to downtown Savannah. We hope to see everyone turn out to support our growing business community, pay tribute to our nations heroes and kick back with some great music in the center of our beautiful City,” said Ruel Joyner, President. “We are grateful for the generous support of our sponsors. With out them, this fantastic evening of bourbon, brass and business would not be possible.”

Tickets for the Battle of the Bourbons can be purchased for $30 for regular admission and $15 for veterans and active duty military. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.savannahdba.com.
