Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Monday, November 16th, 2015

In partnership with Kids Helping Kids, the West Broad Street YMCA has kicked off plans for our 34th Annual Miracle on May Street. The annual event will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2015. To help make a family’s Christmas brighter, the Y is accepting donations for new or gently used toys, clothes, household items, electronics, books, and more. Donations will be collected through Friday, December 11, 2015. Donation collection sites are the West Broad Street YMCA, 1110 May Street; Cumulus Broadcasting, 214 Television Circle; Vernon Donovan – State Farm Insurance Agent, 1935 E. Victory Drive; and 520 Wings, 2705 Bull Street.

In addition to collecting and donating items for our annual holiday giveaway, we invite persons to volunteer to assist with the sorting of items prior to the event, or various tasks the day of the event to include greeter, assist with check-in process, or volunteer elf. To volunteer, please visit www.westbroadstreetymca.org/volunteer or contact Chelsey Williams at [email protected] or (912) 233-1951.

The December 12th event will include a coordinated resource fair to connect families with social services they expressed a deeper interest or need for. This year we are excited to partner with the Savannah Black Nurses Association to host the Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures mobile dental van to provide free dental screenings to children in attendance during the event. Miracle on May Street will also be completed with a visit from Santa Claus for our young people to enjoy!

Pre-screening interviews will continue to run through November 19th and take place on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9:30am – 1:30pm. Walk-ins are welcome.

Last year’s event was a monumental success as we served 310 families with a total of 775 children and youth who may not have had the opportunity to have a fulfilling holiday season.
