Tuesday, November 10th, 2015

The Georgia Department of Labor’s Hinesville Career Center will host a Veterans Appreciation Day Thursday, Nov. 12, and conduct employment-related training sessions to help veterans and soldiers at Fort Stewart who are transitioning from the military find civilian jobs.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the career center located in Suite 202 at 740 General Stewart Way in Hinesville. A free lunch will be served at 12 noon and door prizes will be awarded to participants.

Training sessions will be conducted on a variety of issues including marketing techniques to jump-start a job search, resume writing, dressing for success, filling out job applications, and the GDOL’s Employ Georgia program, a listing of job openings.

In addition to employment service staff, the career center also employs Disabled Veteran Outreach Program specialists who assist veterans with barriers to employment and aid them in their job search.

Also, the career center has a Local Veteran Employer Representative who works with the local business community to explain to employers the advantages to hiring veterans. And, all job orders that come to the career center from employers are screened to see if the employer is looking for a worker who is a veteran or one who is transitioning from the military.

Advantages to hiring veterans include: ability to learn new skills and concepts, strong leadership qualities, flexibility to work strongly in teams or work independently, diversity and strong interpersonal skills, ability to work efficiently and diligently in a fast-paced environment, respect for procedures and accountability, hands on experience with technology and globalization, strong personal integrity, strong sense of health, safety and property standards, and triumph over adversity.
