Yoga for Cancer Patients and Survivors 

6:30 p.m., Tuesdays, and 12:45 p.m., Thursdays, FitnessOne, 3rd floor of the Memorial Outpatient & Wellness Center, Memorial University Medical Center

These weekly yoga classes are free for cancer survivors and those in treatment. The classes help with flexibility and balance while also providing relaxation. The instructor is Yoga Alliance registered with more than 200 hours of training, including specialized yoga training for cancer survivors at OM Yoga in New York. Bariatric Surgery Information Session

Greater Savannah Breast Cancer Support Group

4 - 6 p.m., Sunday, November 8, Conference Room of the Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute at Memorial University Medical Center

Breast cancer patients and their caregivers in the greater Savannah, Hilton Head, and coastal Georgia area are invited to join this group. The meetings often feature presentations from the local medical community, are informal, and are conducted in a discussion format to encourage participation. Prostate Cancer Support Group: Man to Man

6 - 8 p.m., Wednesday, November 11, in the Conference Room of the Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute at Memorial University Medical Center

This group is for men who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer and their caregivers. The group provides a variety of educational and support programs. Leukemia, Lymphoma, and Multiple Myeloma Support Group

5 - 6 p.m. Thursday, November 12, Summit Cancer Care office, Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute at Memorial University Medical Center

This education and support group is for individuals with blood-related cancers and their loved ones. Each month, the group focuses on a specific blood cancer topic and on improving quality of life. To reserve your space, please call 912-350-7845. 

 

Bariatric Surgery Information Session -- Vidalia

9 - 10 a.m., Friday, November 13, Vidalia/Meadows Therapy, 101 Harris Industrial Boulevard, Vidalia

This session provides information about bariatric surgery and the program at Memorial Health Bariatrics. Learn about the surgical procedures we offer, the support and education programs involved, and how bariatric surgery can change your life. Cupid’s Arrow Annual Golf Classic

10  a.m. to 4:30  p.m., Saturday, November 14, Oldfield Golf Club, Okatie, S.C.  

This tournament benefits the John A. (Jack) Kolbush Memorial Fund. All proceeds benefit pediatric oncology and hematology patients and their families at The Children's Hospital at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah. Registration begins at 9 a.m., with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Golfers receive a box lunch, followed by an awards ceremony with heavy hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction. Cost per player is $150. Basic Breastfeeding Class

6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 17, Memorial University Medical Center

This two-hour session is designed to educate and support the mother planning to breastfeed. Topics include information on preparing to breastfeed, basic breastfeeding concepts, nutrition, and a discussion of common concerns. Issues such as family support for the breastfeeding mother, the father’s role in feeding, and how to breastfeed and continue to work are also covered. Your support person is encouraged to attend. Bariatric Surgery Information Session – Statesboro

5 p.m., Tuesday, November 17, 23630 Highway 80 East, Unit B, Statesboro 

This support group is open to anybody who has had or is considering having bariatric surgery. Jody Hannah, bariatric physician assistant, will discuss the various aspects of our program and the bariatric surgery process. There is no charge to attend. Head and Neck Cancer Support Group 

2 - 3 p.m., Wednesday, November 18, Conference Room of the Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute at Memorial University Medical Center 

This group is open to individuals with cancers of the head and neck area and their caregivers. At the meetings, we will have a brief discussion from experts in the treatment of head and neck cancer and allow time for group discussion. For more information, please call 912-350-7845. 

 

Worth Fighting For A Cure: A Luncheon with Guest Speaker Lisa Niemi Swayze and Honoring Grateful Patient Jeff Kole

10 a.m. Thursday, November 19, Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort and Spa

The luncheon and program will raise funds to benefit patient care and pancreatic cancer research at the Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute at Memorial University Medical Center. The program will feature film industry veteran Lisa Niemi Swayze, author of the book Worth Fighting For, which chronicles her final months with her husband of 34 years, the late actor Patrick Swayze.
