Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Thursday, November 5th, 2015

Savannah Volkswagen is a title sponsor for the upcoming Savannah Superprestige Cyclocross Race, a weekend event that includes racing through varying terrain and obstacles. It will take place on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015, and Nov. 8, 2015, at Oglethorpe Speedway Park. The race is set to begin at 3 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. on Sunday, and is free for spectators.

There will be categories for Men, Women, and Junior racers, with medals and awards being presented to Juniors, and Men and Women Cat 4 and 5 winners. The total available prize money is $4,500+, with cash prizes being awarded in additional categories.

Savannah Volkswagen is elated to be presenting this event, which many residents look forward to as it provides an incredible experience. Typically taking place in Fall and Winter, this race consists of multiple laps around a short course, of which racers endure pavement, grass, sand, wooded trails, steep hills, and other obstacles. Certain points will have them dismounting their bike and carrying it as they navigate obstructions.

Events like the Savannah Superprestige Cyclocross Race are a wonderful opportunity for local residents to enjoy everything our community has to offer, and come out for a weekend of excitement with friends and family.

“Cyclocross is exhilarating to watch and experience,” said Bryan Schoeffler, race organizer with the Savannah Wheelmen. “We are excited to bring this race to Savannah once again after a one year hiatus.”
