John Wilcher for Sheriff Meet & Greet Oyster Roast at Tubby’s Tank House

An oyster roast to meet with John Wilcher will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 13 at Tubby’s Tank House, located at 2909 River Dr, Thunderbolt, GA 31404. Wilcher is running for Sheriff.

Wilcher has lived in this area his whole life, and has devoted his entire career to the safety of Chatham County and its citizens. Serving in the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office for 40 years and eventually retiring with rank of Colonel in 2014, Wilcher has extensive experience in Hostage Negotiations, Crime Prevention, Counterterrorism and Police Administration. He was a former Jail Administrator, and has had over 3,000 hours of advance and specializing training throughout his career.

Before beginning his law enforcement career, Wilcher served in the United States Navy, from August 1961 – October 1964. He also served in the United States Army Reserve, 1964 – 1967.

He has served as a volunteer for the Georgia Sheriff’s Youth Home, and is an active member of the Mason’s. Wilcher has supervised and worked with the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office Poker Run for 13 years, raising over $300,000 for the Georgia Sheriff’s Youth Home. Wincher is also active with the DARE Program. He is a recipient of the Georgia Sheriff’s Association Excellence Award, the Edward Hester Award from the Savannah Bar Association, and the Trial Lawyer’s Award.

Wilcher’s Platform is: The Chatham County Sheriff’s Department needs a leader who is able and willing to work with state and local legislators to keep Chatham County residents safe.

“As the county’s top law enforcement official, I will be vigilant in protecting our property and our streets,” said Wilcher. “I believe the sheriff should guarantee fair and equal treatment for all citizens. I will stream-line the sheriff’s office and provide better service and less politics.”
