Yoga for Cancer Patients and Survivors

6:30 p.m., Tuesdays, and 12:45 p.m., Thursdays, FitnessOne, 3rd floor of the Memorial Outpatient and Wellness Center

These weekly yoga classes are free for cancer survivors and those in treatment. The classes are geared toward cancer survivors and aim to help expand flexibility and balance while also providing relaxation.  The instructor is Yoga Alliance registered with more than 200 hours of training, including specialized yoga training for cancer survivors at OM Yoga in New York. Greater Savannah Area Breast Cancer Support Group

4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, January 10, in the lobby of the Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute at Memorial University Medical Center

The meetings are open to breast cancer patients and their caregivers in the greater Savannah, Hilton Head and Coastal Georgia area. The meetings often have special presentations from the local medical community, are informal and conducted in a discussion type format to encourage the participation by all in attendance. Prostate Cancer Support Group: Man to Man

6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, January 13, in the Conference Room of the Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute at Memorial University Medical Center

This group is for men who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer and their caregivers. The group provides a variety of educational and support programs. Baby Basics

9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, January 16, Memorial University Medical Center

This class is strongly recommended for first-time parents. A variety of topics are covered in this class, such as basic newborn care, feeding, infant hygiene, life with a new baby, safety in the home, car seat safety, and infant CPR. $45 per couple. Head and Neck Cancer Support Group 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday, January 20, Conference Room, Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute at Memorial University Medical Center

The Center for Behavioral Medicine Movie Night

6:30 p.m. Thursday, January 21, Medical Education Auditorium (across from Georgia Eye) on the campus of Memorial University Medical Center

The public is invited to the Center for Behavioral Medicine’s quarterly movie night. These popular films all have a psychiatric theme. A brief discussion will be held at the conclusion of the film. Prepared Childbirth Saturday Session

9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, January 23, at Memorial University Medical Center

This full-day course gives an overview of reproductive anatomy and physiology and explains the process of labor and delivery in simple, easy-to-understand terms. It is designed for parents who live outside of Savannah or have schedules that make it difficult to attend weekday classes. This course includes a tour of the labor and delivery unit. Caregiver Coffee

9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 26, in the Lobby of the Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute at Memorial University Medical Center

Basic Breastfeeding Class

6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 26, Memorial University Medical Center

This two-hour session is designed to educate and support the mother planning to breastfeed. Topics include information on preparing to breastfeed, basic breastfeeding concepts, nutrition, and a discussion of common concerns. Issues such as family support for the breastfeeding mother, the father’s role in feeding, and how to breastfeed and continue to work are also covered. Your support person is encouraged to attend.
