Art Rise Savannah and Savannah Development and Renewal Authority are excited to present “Better Block in Starland” with the 50th First Friday Art March. On Friday, April 1st, join ARS, SDRA, and a coalition of community, civic, and arts organizations as we transform a portion of Bull Street in Savannah’s Starland District to demonstrate how temporary interventions can bring vitality, improved mobility, and creativity to public spaces across the city.

SDRA’s Better Block program is a community-development demonstration tool that uses grassroots efforts to reimagine urban areas and showcase ideas and opportunities to build thriving neighborhoods with complete streets, vibrant public spaces, and engaged community members. From 3:00 to 10:00 PM on April 1st, the Better Block in Starland will host “pop-up” businesses, live local music, temporary public artworks, and traffic redesign to create a new vision for the block, foster community ownership, and promote long-term changes in the area.

Along with the Better Block event, the First Friday Art March will be celebrating its 50th consecutive month of arts and culture in the Starland District. This award-winning community event will happen in conjunction with the Better Block event and take place from 6:00 to 9:00 PM, with the Free Art Trolley making rounds to over 20 arts-based locations throughout the greater Starland and Midtown areas.

This event is supported in part by Gulfstream and the City of Savannah’s Department of Cultural Affairs.
