LifeLink of Georgia Foundation recently presented an award and $1,000 check to the Armstrong State University Office of Multicultural Affairs for securing the most organ donor designations in the statewide 2015 Battle for Life competition.

“We are thrilled to receive the grant,” said Nashia Whittenburg, director of Armstrong’s Office of Multicultural Affairs. “The award will be put in the OMA Fund, which assists students with costs associated with last-minute emergencies, books and school supplies. Anything remaining will go towards our retention programs.”

Armstrong’s Office of Multicultural Affairs, whose programming efforts target diversity, cultural competence, academic stimulation and service to the Greater Metropolis of Savannah, hosted numerous on-campus events to educate students on the benefit of organ, eye and tissue donation.

“I want to thank Armstrong for making this such a great competition this year,” said LifeLink’s Education Specialist Amanda Hollowell. “With Armstrong’s help, we’re enriching lives. We see the direct impact to local multicultural communities in Savannah.”

Armstrong registered more than 270 people as organ donors during the month of October, edging out Darton State College and Middle College of Georgia for the win. The university is the official 2016 university representative for LifeLink of Georgia. Armstrong will be producing a public service announcement about organ donation that will be released in April for National Donate Life Month.
