Savannah Speech and Hearing Center, a nonprofit organization serving the speech pathology and audiology needs of the Coastal Empire since 1954, is pleased to name Claire Dubee as the 2015 Volunteer of the Year.

Claire Dubee received the Annie F. Oliver Award recognizing excellence and a strong commitment to volunteering for the betterment of the Savannah Speech and Hearing Center Community at a special volunteer reception, Wednesday, February 3, 2016.  The award was created in 1979 to honor Annie F. Oliver, an administrator of the Savannah Speech and Hearing Center from 1962 to 1978 and a community volunteer.  Thus far, there have been 34 recipients.

In 2015, the Savannah Speech and Hearing Center volunteers screened over 7,400 students in 30 public, private, and preschools in Savannah, Richmond Hill, and Pooler.  In addition, the volunteers spent 961 hours at Sound Start, school hearing screenings, Hammond for Hope Auction and The Stroke Support Group.

Dubee’s volunteer work currently includes time spent at the Savannah Speech and Hearing Center and the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association with past work at the Hudson Community Center and the Older Americans Luncheon.  As a volunteer for the Savannah Speech and Hearing Center, Dubee assisted in the organization of the Sound Start Benefit auction event.  In 2015, she participated in the collection of silent and live auction items and the designing of gift certificates,.  The auction surpassed all past efforts by raising an impressive $30,000 with the efforts of Dubee.

Dubee currently works as a billing specialist at the Savannah Speech and Hearing Center.  She is responsible for processing claims, patient statements, personal data, post transactions as well as overseeing unpaid or denied claims.  In addition, Dubee assists in translations for Spanish-speaking clients.

Dubee received a B.A. in Spanish and a minor in economics at Armstrong State University and is currently a post BACC student with plans to apply to the speech pathology and public health graduate program in the fall.  During her undergraduate time at Armstrong, she was president of Armstrong’s NSSLHA and a member of The Spanish Honor Society.  She is a member of the American Speech Language Hearing Association, the Georgia Speech Language Hearing Association, Armstrong’s NSSLHA and The National Society of Collegiate Scholars.  In her free time, Dubee enjoys volunteering at the Savannah Human Society and spending time outdoors, biking, camping, and traveling.
