Coastal Heritage Society’s Summer Camp Registration Opens to the Public

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2016

Registration opens today for Coastal Heritage Society’s 2016 Summer Camps, the popular summer programs inspired by learning through discovery. The week-long camps: “Jr. Scientist Camp,” “Top Secret Science Camp,” “Jr. Engineer Train Camp” and “Dig It! Archaeology Camp” will each take place in June and July. Children have the opportunity to explore a variety of interests that expound on some of the unique exhibits at our museums.

“Our summer camps give the kids in Savannah and surrounding areas an opportunity to explore science, archaeology, and/or the world of train engineers both inside a classroom and on site at Savannah Children’s Museum and Georgia State Railroad Museum,” said Jessica Paterson, SCM Operations Supervisor. “Not only do the kids learn about these exciting subjects through hands-on activities and experiments, they also make great friends along the way!”

Each of the four summer camps includes experiential learning opportunities. “Jr. Scientist Camp” takes our young visitors through the fascinating science fields as botanists, chemists and paleontologists. At “Top Secret Science Camp” the kids become mad scientists working on secret experiments for the week. During “Jr. Engineer Train Camp” the campers have the unique opportunity to work alongside real engineers and learn about steam and diesel powered locomotives. And at “Dig It! Archaeology Camp” the kids dig deep inside the earth to learn more about paleontology, geology, archaeology and more.

Registration for “Jr. Scientist Camp,” “Top Secret Science Camp,” and “Jr. Engineer Train Camp” is $155 per child. Registration for “Dig It! Archaeology Camp” is $169 per child. Discounted rates are offered for Coastal Heritage Society members. The camps will take place from June 6 through July 15. Pre-registration is required and tickets sell out fast!
