Students are invited to apply for Savannah State University’s residential summer camp for digital media literacy. SSU Media High, a two-week camp for high school students interested in journalism and mass communications, will be held June 19 – July 1, 2016.

A program sponsored by the university’s Department of Journalism and Mass Communications, the rigorous camp will teach students how to create and deliver digital content for mobile devices. Students selected should expect to experience the rigor of working in a multimedia newsroom and becoming communications leaders in their respective communities.

Students ages 14-17 who are interested in writing, editing, photography, broadcasting and social media are encouraged to apply. The deadline is April 1, 2016. Those selected to participate will create apps for informational games and report multimedia stories for SSU Media High’s blog and social media platforms.

Students are required to reside on campus during the two-week program, and will experience campus life and the local culture while exploring the global impact of media. Students will be asked to contribute $300, a portion of the overall cost. Some scholarships from media and corporate partners will be available for eligible students.

SSU Media High is seeking grants and other donations to defray some of the costs. Donations may by made at give.savannahstate.edu/JMCdonations.
