Telfair in Bloom Coming April 14th-17th

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Monday, April 4th, 2016

The Telfair Academy Guild presents the inaugural Telfair in Bloom, a festival featuring floral arrangements inspired by iconic Telfair artwork, April 14-17 at the Jepson Center and Telfair Academy, both located on Telfair Square.

More than 30 designers using fresh flowers will interpret works from Telfair’s collection of paintings, sculptures, and decorative arts. These designers will open up a new way of appreciating the museum’s collection, proving that not all art is in a frame.

At the opening celebration on April 14, guests can preview the lavish arrangements and paired artworks, while also enjoying cocktails and hors d’oeuvres created with a floral touch.

Manhattan-based garden designer, floral stylist and writer Lindsey Taylor will give a floral demonstration after her talk, The Art of Inspiration: Surprising Ways of Seeing Art in Blooms, on April 15 at 10:30am. Taylor has served as garden editor at Garden Design and Martha Stewart Living, and is a contributor to the Wall Street Journal “Off-Duty” section and T: The New York Times Style Magazine. She co-founded the Evergreen Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to urban renewal and greenspaces in Toronto, her hometown. Her presentation will be followed by Luncheon in the Garden, a uniquely flower-filled repast.

Local cinema lecturer Keller Jones will share her insights and enthusiasm for flowers in film in a presentation, Magnolias, Roses and Dahlias: The Power of Flowers in Film, on April 16. Guests can take one last chance to view the flowers while enjoying Café À la Rose and floral scented treated. Children’s activities for young budding artists will also be going on throughout the day.

The flower arrangements will be displayed throughout the Jepson Center and the Telfair Academy where visitors can see them with paid admission during regular museum hours.
