Father and Son Graduate on Same Day at Savannah State

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Monday, May 9th, 2016

Savannah State has seriously impressive graduation participants this year. A father and son will both be graduating with 4.0 GPAs on Saturday.

Marcelo and Daniel Meis (pronounced ‘mace’) will both graduate from Savannah State University on Saturday, May 7. Marcelo Meis, will receive his MBA, while his son Daniel will graduate as a biology major.

It was Daniel who convinced his father to return to a college campus. Marcelo had been talking about getting the advanced business degree for years. “I told him he could do it. At SSU, it’s part time. No more excuses,” Daniel told his father. For the past two years, Marcelo has completed coursework after he gets off work as an engineer at Boeing.

During his time at SSU, Daniel has not only earned top academic honors, he has also engaged in research with NASA. He assisted in synthesizing material that went to the International Space Station as part of genetic research. He is headed to medical school in the summer.
