The world-famous Harlem Globetrotters have partnered with the Savannah College of Artand Design on a creative initiative to reach its fans and friends in a new and never-before-seen way.

The Harlem Globetrotters are collaborating with the SCAD animation department to create character concepts for a potential animated series based on the team. Working closely with the Globetrotters, students are engaged in the research and development of ideas and designs for the project.

This partnership is conducted through the SCAD Collaborative Learning Center, which unites SCAD faculty and students with external partners on projects to generate innovative solutions to real-world challenges. Part of the SCAD Quality Enhancement Plan, a requirement of SCAD's institutional accreditation, the CLC enhances the education of SCAD students by fostering authentic professional experiences that contribute to unparalleled career preparation.

"We're very excited about collaborating with SCAD in developing a product that will expand our brand in the world of television and animation," said Harlem Globetrotters President Howard Smith. "We are looking forward to the opportunity to work with such creative and innovative students."

"We are excited to partner with the Harlem Globetrotters, purveyors of family-friendly entertainment for a global audience for the past 90 years," said Lee Barry Todd, Director of Sponsored Projects, SCAD Atlanta. "This animation project provides our students with a wonderful opportunity to apply their creative talents in a professional capacity, and in a way that supports the incredible legacy of the Globetrotters."

The program will be established in four phases over the duration of the course, including the Globetrotters visiting the SCAD campus and hosting students at the Harlem Globetrotters International headquarters in Peachtree Corners, GA. The course launched in the spring of 2016.
