Memorial's Mary Chatman Inducted Into ECU Nursing Hall of Fame

Mary Chatman, Ph.D., R.N., chief operating officer and chief nursing officer at Memorial University Medical Center, was inducted into the East Carolina University College of Nursing Hall of Fame. The induction was celebrated with a ceremony in Greenville, South Carolina.

Chatman holds a Bachelor of Science (1990), a Master of Science in Nursing Administration (1994), and a Doctorate in Nursing (2012) from East Carolina University.

She joined Memorial University Medical Center in 2009 as senior vice president and chief nursing officer. In 2012, she assumed the additional role of chief operating officer, giving her accountability for day-to-day operations. Chatman leads nursing divisions, ancillary divisions, perioperative services, the Heart & Vascular Institute, information services, human resources, facility services, and construction and support services at Memorial Health.

The 2016 inductees join a list of 79 Hall of Fame members representing nine states. Each new member receives a flame-shaped award that resembles the lamp illustrated on the college’s nursing pin. The lamp and its associated flame symbolize a commitment to service and a vibrant life.
