TailsSpin Pet Food and Accessories, a local Savannah business, has recently been awarded a certification by the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce.  TailsSpin is the first among the Savannah LGBT owned businesses to have been awarded this certification.

With this official certification, the NGLCC, its organizational allies, and corporate partners now nationally recognize TailsSpin among the growing ranks of over 856 certified LGBT business entities.

The National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce started in November 2002, when Justin Nelson and Chance Mitchell realized no one had really considered the economic equality of LGBT people or the impact economics could have on the equality movement. The organization sought to showcase that LGBT people were business owners, employers, taxpayers, providers of healthcare – that they were a vibrant, essential part of the small business engine that makes the U.S. economy run and therefore, deserved a place at the equality table.

“Being a member of this wonderful organization fits our mission at TailsSpin, promoting inclusion in its workforce and business practices.  The membership would also allow us to access all the strategic growth opportunities offered by our national organization,” said Jeff Manley, co-owner of TailsSpin. “It is important for us to be part of the movement and solution in acknowledging the impact of LGBT businesses in Savannah, Georgia, and the country,” adds Jusak Yang Bernhard, husband and business co-owner of TailsSpin.

TailsSpin is now eligible to participate in the NGLCC’s corporate partners’ supplier diversity programs, can take advantage of the vast educational opportunities promoted by the NGLCC, and can work to foster business to business relationships with other LGBT business entities.
