Armstrong State University Associate Professor of Communications and African-American Studies Dr. Elizabeth Desnoyers-Colas has been selected as a National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Scholar. The three-week Summer Scholar residency, centered on veteran discourse, will be sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Institute for College and University Teachers and hosted at Virginia Tech from July 10-29.
 
The program engages leading scholars, veterans and practitioners in conversation about ways that humanities, artistic and social science approaches to veterans in society can promote, deepen and refine understanding across boundaries. Summer Scholars use institute resources to develop or enhance their own projects by applying institute themes in their research, teaching and civic engagement.  
 
Desnoyers-Colas, a retired U.S. Air Force officer, is an associate professor of Communications and African-American Studies at Armstrong and the author of Marching as to War: Personal Narratives of African-American Women’s Experiences in the Gulf Wars. At Armstrong, she also serves as the president of the Faculty Senate and as the coordinator for the Men of Vision and Excellence African-American male retention initiative on campus.
